The PRIDE Northshore Parade

The parade rolled with over 500 participants on June 1st at the Mandeville Lakefront, running from Jackson Ave to Coffee Street.

It was followed by an After Party at Pat’s Rest Awhile.

WHY HAVE A PRIDE PARADE?

In the past 2 years, the LGBTQ+ community has been under heavy attack in Louisiana. Here on the Northshore, extremist groups succeeded in having Pride displays removed from our libraries, a billboard made by a local trans teen was burned down, and hundreds of calls are being made to remove LGBTQ+ books from our libraries. In our state legislature, Republican lawmakers continue to push through bills supporting the erasure of queer and trans identities from our communities.

Our nonprofit, Queer Northshore, launched PRIDE Northshore as a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and our allies, and to push back on anti-LGBTQ+ agendas and legislation by publicly advocating for diversity and equality with an inclusive and all ages PRIDE parade.

  • The parade runs along Lakeshore Drive in Mandeville from Jackson Avenue to Coffee Street. The best places to watch the parade from are near the businesses along Lakeshore Drive. Pat’s Rest Awhile, one of our Rainbow Sponsors, is the location of the public afterparty, and McClain’s Pizzeria, another Rainbow Sponsor, is right around the corner. You can also watch from the park on the lakefront but be aware that once the parade is in front of you, you won’t be able to cross the street for food, drinks and bathrooms.

  • The Parade will start rolling promptly at 5pm and will wrap up by 6pm, followed by the after party at Pat’s Rest Awhile.

  • As with any parade, parking is a challenge. We recommend arriving early so you have time to get a good spot. Parking is available along many of the side streets. Since many of these streets are residential, please be mindful of residential driveways. Carpooling is always a great option as well.

  • Bring your Queer Joy, a positive attitude, sunscreen, and water!

  • There are many restaurants and bars along the route where public restrooms are available. These business will likely expect you to purchase something to use their restrooms.

  • The PRIDE Northshore parade is an all-ages parade. Their will be children of all ages in the parade as well as along the route. All of the throws and the parade itself are appropriate for all ages.

  • The PRIDE Northshore parade is produced by us, Queer Northshore, a nonprofit with a mission of promoting LGBTQ+ visibility, community, and acceptance in Louisiana’s Northshore Region.
